Unit Per Gram (U/g) of Hemoglobin in a Galactosemia Test
The amount of galactose-1-phosphate uridyltransferase (GALT) in a blood sample can be measured in units per grams (U/g) of hemoglobin.
- A unit is an arbitrary amount agreed upon by scientists and doctors. A gram is an amount equivalent to 1/28 ounce.
- Hemoglobin is the substance in red blood cells that carries oxygen.
