Diagnostic Arthroscopy for Temporomandibular Disorders

Topic Overview

There are several cases when arthroscopy may be used to diagnose a temporomandibular disorder (TMD). It may be done:

  • When other tests can't find the cause of the symptoms, and other treatment has not relieved pain.
  • Before surgery, if the surgeon needs to be sure that there is a joint problem.
  • When a doctor needs to see how the joint moves in order to make a diagnosis.
